22 Feb 1990Wicketkeeper Ian Smith rescues New Zealand from 131-7 with the highest score from a Test number nine. Ably assisted by Richard Hadlee, Smith smashed his way to a century from 95 balls. If India thought he had cut loose then, they were very wrong. 23 balls later Smith had reached 150 with a sensational assualt on India's bowlers. He was eventually lbw to Prabhakhar for 173 off 136 balls, and New Zealand had scored 391.
